On February 1, 2025, BraWo Marathi Mandal organized a classical music festival in Braunschweig, Germany, with active support by Braunschweig City’s cultural department. This concert was an unforgettable musical experience for the music lovers.
Pune’s famous singer Dr. Vikas Kashalkar mesmerized the audience with his melodious singing for about 2 hours. In the first half of the program, Khayalgayan was performed in Bhoop and Jog raagas. Later, in the second half of the program, the rarely sung raaga Pradeepaki and a bhajan “Chandan Chawal Belki Pati” which is mentioned in the Pothi of Shri. Gajanan Maharaj added mesmerising experience to the concert. The program ended with the traditional Bhairavi Bandish. He was accompanied by his disciples Shri. Hrishikesh Suravase on tabla, Shri. Parimal Kolhatkar on tanpura and Shri. Varad Bhagwat on Harmonium. The program was moderated by the secretary of the Mandal, Mrs. Mugdha Punekar and Vice President of the Mandal, Ms. Mallika Khamkar welcomed the guests and the artist. In this concert, which was in two parts, the audience enjoyed delicious refreshments from the Mandal member, Mrs. Snehal Patil.
The attendees expressed their satisfaction at getting the opportunity to experience a quality program and another quality musical and cultural program of the BraWo Marathi Mandal was held.
The next day, on February 2, a singing workshop was organized by Dr. Vikas Kashalkar Sir at Arkanum Yoga Center, Braunschweig. In this workshop, which lasted for about three and a half hours, children as well as adults were able to learn the nuances of classical singing. Sir explained the history of Indian music to them. The students present explained in detail how Khayala is performed in the simple Bilawal raga. The answers to their questions were received during the workshop itself and it was useful overall.
In addition, Dr. Vikas Kashalkar also visited the Music College in Rostock on 27th January 2025 during his visit to Germany and interacted with music students and teachers there through a workshop. This visit can be a link in connecting Indian music with European music.
In the future, similar programs to promote Indian culture will be organized by BraWo Marathi Mandal.
